6 Reasons to Visit Hersheypark this Summer 2024

Hersheypark is a SWEET (going to be a lot of puns in this article just warning you now) destination for families to visit each year. If you have never visited Hersheypark before, I am going to try to convince you in this article to prepare yourself! This theme park was founded in 1906 by Milton Hershey in Hershey, Pennsylvania as a leisure park for employees of the Hershey Chocolate Factory Company. Today, 3.3 million guests visit the “sweetest place on earth” per year and leave extremely satisfied. In this article, we are going to discuss 7 reasons why you should visit Hersheypark this summer.

1. Chocolatetown Expansion

Starting off the list with “Chocolatetown” because it may just be one of the top reasons I enjoy visiting Hersheypark so much. In 2020, Hersheypark debuted their largest expansion that cost $150 million - CHOCOLATETOWN! This sounds like a place you want to be and well, it is. This 23 acre expansion is now the front entrance of the park and what you see when you first enter Hersheypark. The design is inspired by Milton Hershey’s era and American factory and feels timeless. The brick with the brown steel elements in the entrance makes for a beautiful entrance to the park!

If you are visiting Hersheypark in the summer, you should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the park opens. Be prepared to see long lines, but they go very quickly and you will be in the park in no time. Right when you scan into the park, you will see the beautiful - Hersheypark Candymonium coaster. This hyper coaster opened along with Chocolatetown and is my personal favorite coaster in the park. It is so smooth, thrilling and the tallest and fastest in Hersheypark!

Hersheypark’s Chocolatetown also features the park's first ever Starbucks as well as Hersheypark Supply Co. and The Chocolatier Restaurant (which we will discuss more later). Both the Hersheypark Supply Co. and The Chocolatier are technically “outside” of the park meaning that even if you don’t have a park ticket, you can get in. If you want to visit from inside the park they will stamp your hand to acknowledge that you have a park ticket when you try to re-enter the park. The Hersheypark Supply Co. is a big merchandise shop and I will say Hersheypark has some of the BEST theme park merchandise out there. Inside of this building is also Milton’s Ice Cream Parlor and The Sweeterie if you want a sweet treat.

2. Wildcats Revenge

On July 31, 2022, Hersheypark bid farewell to "The Wildcat," a beloved wooden roller coaster that had been in operation since 1996 and reached thrilling speeds of up to 48 mph. However, the amusement park's announcement of the coaster's closure was accompanied by a cryptic tweet that hinted at something more than just scrapping the ride.

Coaster enthusiasts were quick to speculate the possible partnership with Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) - a fabricator and manufacturer of amusement rides and roller coasters - who is famous for transforming old wooden roller coasters into new hybrid attractions. A “hybrid coaster” is a track made out of steel, while the support structure is made from wood. Rocky Mountain Construction has transformed wooden coasters around the world. Some of the most famous being Iron Gwazi in Busch Gardens Tampa and Twisted Timbers in Kings Dominion. More local to Hersheypark - RMC has constructed the Jersey Devil coaster in Six Flags Great Adventure as well as Wicked Cyclone in Six Flags New England.

Wildcats Revenge is going to be a HUGE addition to Hersheypark that will attract coaster enthusiasts and thrill seekers from across the country. Hersheypark states that this coaster will, “Climb a 140 foot hill, hit max speeds of 62 MPH, dive into an 82-degree drop, invert 4 times, and stalk your prey through the World's Largest Underflip.” The height requirement will be 48” and up or “Hersheys, Twizzlers and Jolly Ranchers” - another cute thing Hersheypark does is their height requirements are categorized by their candies! So if you’re 48-54" inches tall, you are a Hershey.

 3. Rides for the Whole Family

Hersheypark is an exceptional family destination, with an impressive array of rides that cater to visitors of all ages and preferences. From the “Hershey's Miniatures” to “Jolly Ranchers”, there is no shortage of thrilling experiences to be had for all age groups. For the little ones, the kiddie ride area adjacent to Chocolatetown offers a nostalgic 103-year-old carousel, as well as 27 other rides that will delight even the tiniest adventurers.

For the more daring teens and adults, Hersheypark offers a heart-pumping coasters, including the highly anticipated Wildcats Revenge (coming Summer 2023). But in the meantime, visitors can enjoy other incredible rides like the Great Bear, Storm Runner, and Fahrenheit. Whatever your age or taste, Hersheypark promises an unforgettable experience for everyone. I also want to point out the Kissing Tower, Monorail and Skyview are all great attractions that I love to try to get on during my visits to Hersheypark as they are great for the whole family!

4. Calling all “Foodies“

Let's begin with the most important news of all: yes, Hersheypark does indeed have a Chick-Fil-A! It's hard to believe, but true. And while this beloved chicken joint is certainly a fan favorite, Hersheypark offers a diverse range of dining options to suit every taste and appetite.

Another popular choice is Chickie's and Pete's, with two locations around the park that are famous for their crab fries, burgers, and chicken sandwiches. The Overlook food court is another solid option, featuring classic park fare like chicken fingers, burgers, and pizza, as well as gluten-free and vegetarian options. For a cool and healthy option, be sure to check out Oola Bowls, which has two locations throughout the park and offers delicious acai bowls, pitaya bowls, and superfoods.

But if you're looking for something truly special, make your way to The Chocolatier. This restaurant is one of the best at any theme park, with not only fantastic food but also a fun atmosphere, seating, and plenty of open space. The Chocolatier also features exhibits showcasing past Hersheypark attractions and history, adding a unique and interesting element to your dining experience. During the warmer months, guests can enjoy outdoor seating and even a game of cornhole. And don't miss out on the Ferris Wheel Sampler - a delectable platter of Hershey's Chocolate Barbecue Chicken Wings, Crispy Mozzarella, Classic Chicken Tenders, Buffalo Chicken Dip, and Soft Pretzel Dippers that's perfect for sharing with a group. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

KP TIP Make a reservation well in advance for The Chocolatier as it is a very popular dining option

5. What’s HERSHEYpark without Dessert?

I mean, where do I begin with desserts at HERSHEYpark?? Let me just say that be prepared because even if you are on a diet, it’s hard to visit Hersheypark without wanting a piece of Hershey’s Chocolate after your visit. Here are some of my personal favorite dessert stops in Hersheypark.

East Coast Mini Donuts

If you follow me on Instagram - you are not surprised by this. East Coast Mini Donuts Truck is an absolute must-visit when you're at Hersheypark. Not only is it adorable, but the donuts themselves are out-of-this-world delicious. These mini donuts come with a variety of tempting toppings that are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. Don't skip over the donut fried Oreos - an ingenious creation that takes the classic treat to new heights. The Oreos are coated in donut batter, resulting in a slightly sweeter version of this beloved dessert. Okay, now I want a donut!

Milton’s Ice Cream Parlor & The Sweeterie

If you're looking for a sweet way to cap off your day at Hersheypark, be sure to check out the dessert options at Hershey Supply Co. These treats are an absolute must-try for any visitor. Located inside the store, you'll find a selection of both seasonal and classic treats that are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. Whether you're in the mood for some fudge or a scrumptious cupcake, Hershey Supply Co. has got you covered. Trust me, indulging in these desserts is the perfect way to end a day of non-stop fun and excitement at Hersheypark.

Hershey’s Chocolate World

No trip to Hersheypark would be complete without a visit to the iconic Hershey's Chocolate World - it's one of my absolute favorite things to do there! The best part? You don't even need a park ticket to enjoy it. Whether you're looking for a fun morning activity before hitting the park or a sweet stop before heading home, Hershey's Chocolate World is the perfect destination. During my last visit to Hersheypark for the Christmas Candylane event in December 2022, we made sure to swing by Hershey's Chocolate World before we left for the day. We stocked up on plenty of candy to bring home and, of course, took a ride on the legendary chocolate tour. It's an experience that no Hersheypark trip is complete without!

Hershey’s Chocolate Tour is a free ride inside of Chocolate World. It takes you through the process of how Hershey’s Chocolate is made! At the end of the ride, they hand out a free mini Hershey bar! There is so much to do in Hershey’s Chocolate World from making your own chocolate bar to stuffing your own recess. There are of course premade treats you can enjoy too like smores and milkshakes.

6. Staying in Hershey - Hotels

If you're looking for the ultimate Hersheypark experience, look no further than staying at Hershey Lodge or The Hotel Hershey - the park's two official resorts. While I've only had the pleasure of staying at Hershey Lodge myself, I've heard nothing but great things about The Hotel Hershey. There are so many amazing benefits to staying at one of these top-notch hotels, including:

  • FREE front gate shuttle service to an exclusive resort drop-off location

  • Best price on Hersheypark tickets

  • Up to 3 extra evening hours with Preview Plan

  • 1-hour early access with Sweet Start

  • FREE admission to Hershey Gardens

  • FREE admission to The Hershey Story's Museum Experience

  • FREE Chocolate at check-in for the whole family (my personal favorite)

  • Access to 2 award-winning golf courses

  • Preferred pricing to ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park

  • Outdoor & Indoor Pool Access

Overall, Hersheypark is a truly incredible destination that any theme park enthusiast simply must experience. With its exciting new attractions, there's always something new and thrilling to discover at this iconic park. I've been blown away by Hersheypark's evolution over the years, and I can’t wait to see what's in store for the 2023 season. Trust me, you won't want to miss it - I'll see you there!
