Must Do: Savannah

A big stop on our summer road trip down south was in Savannah, Georgia. We stayed in Savannah for two nights and I’m very glad we did. Savannah is Georgia’s oldest city and the first planned city in the US. Savannah is filled with history and is also beautiful which makes it a popular tourist destination today. Here are a few must-dos in Savannah

Restaurants

Mrs. Wilkes Dining room

In 1943 Sema Wilkes took over a boardinghouse where you could find a dining room where working class laborers, schoolteachers, bankers, washerwomen and middle-class merchants enjoyed two hearty meals a day. Today, a line forms each morning outside of Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room for their fabulous southern comfort food. Their hours are 11am-2pm Monday-Friday but this isn’t always the case. We arrived at 10:25am to a line down the street already! The second people in line mentioned that they got there at 9:30am. The line was closed off at 11:15 because they would run out of food for the amount of people on line. We ordered at 11:38am and our food was ready by 12:19pm. Was it worth it? Absolutely. The experience alone, waiting in a crazy line for famous fried chicken! The history of this place is amazing and the staff was so welcoming. The food was incredible we got fried chicken of course and many sides to try all of which were amazing. There is a full review up on the Krystal Palace YouTube channel if you would like to see everything we got.

After lunch, we had to walk off all of those calories we just consumed (mostly from their amazing biscuits and corn bread) so we walked around the city. This is something that I highly recommend because there is no better way to explore than to just walk into it.

Collins Quarter

We wanted a nice brunch spot for our last day in Savannah. We came across Collins Quarter which has locations on Bull Street and at Forsyth Park on Drayton Street. This was a very trendy brunch spot in Savannah. I got the coconut chia pudding and I devoured it! Joey got the Swine Time Beni, devoured that as well. We both enjoyed it a lot, great spot.

The Deck - Tybee Island

Since we loved Collins Quarters, we went to its sister restaurant on Tybee, The Deck (same owners). Another great place! The Deck is Tybee’s only beach front restaurant so if you want those “beachy” vibes, definitely try to eat here! For apps we got the frito-misto which was great. For my meal I went with the carne asada which was excellent. I went a little out of my comfort zone with this choice but I’m glad I did! Recommend!

Things to Do

Wormsloe Historic Site

A must do is Wormsloe Historic Site. We weren’t planning on going here but boy are we sure glad that we did. The mile and a half drive down to the actual site is unlike any other road. Beautiful live oak trees line the street. We saw a couple taking engagement photos here, what a perfect backdrop! This photo alone will make you want to go here.

They also have trails and other historic sights that are cool for everyone to check out, especially if you are interested in American history.

St. John The Baptist Church

What a beautiful church! The architecture of this building is incredible. If there is not mass going on, you can go in as well. I recommend going here because it is definitely one of those Savannah staples that you need to see.

Forsyth Park

Another Savannah staple is Forsyth Park where they have a gorgeous fountain, greens to picnic or have a catch on and a playground for the little ones!

Tybee Island

On our second day in Savannah, we took a 20 minute drive over to Tybee Island for a nice beach day. There is metered parking on the main street and you can just walk over to the beach. This was a gorgeous beach and a nice way to relax after exploring the city!

Accommodations

The Westin at Savannah Harbor & The Club at Savannah Harbor

We stayed here and it was my favorite hotel on our road trip. If you or anyone in your party likes to golf this is a great place to stay. My boyfriend planned to golf at the course at Savannah Harbor so we ended up choosing to stay there as well. The course had a beautiful clubhouse and was very well maintained. The great thing about this hotel is that they have a water taxi that takes you right to River Street in Savannah. From River Street, you can explore the rest of the city! It was a nice, clean hotel. I even utilized the pool while my boyfriend golfed which was great. Oh and most importantly, there is a Starbucks in the lobby #necessities

The beauty of Savannah can only be understood if you get the chance to see it in person. All of these activities are featured in The Krystal Palace YouTube videos from Savannah.
